Television host Jeon Hyun-moo made an emotional return to the KBS announcer room for the first time in 14 years, fulfilling his Grand Prize pledge by donating a premium capsule coffee machine and turning a nostalgic visit into one of the most talked-about variety show moments of 2026.

A Homecoming 14 Years in the Making

The heartwarming visit was featured on the February 22 episode of KBS2 variety show Boss Ear is Donkey Ear, which recorded a peak viewership rating of 7.8 percent and a nationwide average of 5.3 percent. The episode extended the show impressive run to 194 consecutive weeks atop the same-timeslot entertainment ratings. Jeon Hyun-moo arrived at the KBS building carrying boxes of rice cakes, visibly nervous about returning to what he called his home base.

The broadcaster, who left KBS to pursue a freelance career, was greeted warmly by announcer room head Han Sang-kwon and junior announcers including Eom Ji-in, Kim Jin-woong, and Park Ji-hyun. Han remarked that Jeon was the first KBS announcer in history to win an entertainment Grand Prize, calling it a proud moment for their entire department.

From Coffee Machine to Building Renovation

When Jeon expressed his desire to give back to the announcer room, Eom Ji-in seized the opportunity to point out that their coffee machine was older than fellow announcer Kim Jin-woong tenure. Jeon initially tried to deflect with humor, suggesting the aged machine must produce more flavorful coffee. When Kim Jin-woong mentioned that the shared computers were outdated, Han Sang-kwon added context by revealing the KBS building itself is over 50 years old. Jeon Hyun-moo responded with his trademark humor, asking whether he should just build a new one. The exchange gained traction when Han revealed that the building struggles to even provide warm water, prompting Jeon to clench his fists with determination. Meanwhile, announcer Kim Bo-min revealed that during the 2017 KBS strike, Jeon privately sent 20 million won in support, an amount so large the announcers initially tried to return it.

Jeon himself reflected on the significance of winning the 2025 KBS Entertainment Awards. He shared that while he had received Grand Prize honors at other broadcasting networks, receiving the award from KBS carried a unique emotional weight. He explained that being recognized by the place that knows all of his embarrassing past and humble beginnings felt profoundly different from any other achievement.
