Red Velvet main vocalist Wendy has joined forces with American singer-songwriter Alec Benjamin for a cross-border collaboration single titled EMOTIONS, marking a bold new chapter in her post-SM Entertainment career. The R&B track, released on February 27 through major global music platforms, blends the distinct vocal colors of both artists into a warm and emotionally resonant listening experience.

A Meeting of Vocal Styles

The collaboration pairs two artists known for their distinctive approaches to emotional storytelling through music. Alec Benjamin, who gained international recognition with his 2018 hit Let Me Down Slowly, brings his signature minimalist sound and sincere lyricism to the project. Wendy, celebrated for her powerful vocal range and expressive delivery, complements his understated style with her own rich, emotionally layered singing.

EMOTIONS captures the warmth hidden within the cold winter air, according to the producers. The track features a restrained sonic landscape that allows both voices to intertwine naturally, creating a quiet yet deeply resonant atmosphere. Wendy and Benjamin vocals flow together like a single narrative, transcending language barriers and connecting listeners through pure feeling.

A Strategic Global Push

The single is the first result of a 2026 strategic collaboration project jointly planned and produced by Danal Entertainment and Devine Channel. The initiative aims to expand into the global music market through partnerships between Korean and American artists. Producer Lee Young-ho, who previously helmed successful cross-cultural projects including collaborations between Tablo and Joey Badass as well as BewhY and Talib Kweli, led the production alongside Devine Channel.

Danal Entertainment CEO Hyun Neung-ho described 2026 as a pivotal turning point for the company. He stated that the EMOTIONS release marks the beginning of a series of global collaboration projects that will extend beyond traditional music distribution into active production capabilities.

Wendy Solo Career in Full Swing

The collaboration arrives at a particularly dynamic moment in Wendy career. After departing SM Entertainment in April 2025, she signed with Ascend and has been expanding her presence as a solo artist. Her discography includes solo mini-albums Like Water released in 2021, Wish You Hell, and Cerulean Verge, each showcasing her versatility as a vocalist.

Wendy is also currently wrapping up her first-ever solo world tour, which has taken her to 15 cities across nine countries. The tour concludes with encore performances in Seoul on February 28 and March 1, making the EMOTIONS release a fitting companion piece to this milestone moment. Dispatch noted that global listeners have praised the single for its ability to connect across languages and borders through sheer emotional sincerity, signaling strong potential for the track international reception.
